The Kankrej is a dual purpose breed (milk and work) from Banaskantha and Mehsana, Gujarat. Know it by its large lyre shaped horns and silver grey coat. It gives 1,300 to 1,800 kg of milk per lactation.

Introduction
Large lyre-shaped horns, a silver-grey coat and a distinctive gait. One of India's heaviest indigenous breeds.
Identification
Colour from silver-grey to iron-black. Horns large and lyre-shaped, pointing up and out. In motion the head is held high and the legs lift together, a gait known as the sawai chal.
Origin
The Kankrej tract of Gujarat, between the Banas and Saraswati rivers. In Brazil it is bred as the Guzera.
Traits
- Bullocks fast and powerful, for tillage and haulage
- Average yield 1,300 to 1,800 kg per lactation
- Tolerant of heat and drought
