Introduction
Published in 1953, this historical FAO study gives a broad account of the principal zebu cattle breeds of India and Pakistan. It covers the classification of the breeds, their home tracts, natural environment and climate, physical traits, uses and the prevailing methods of rearing.
The book describes many breeds, including the Kankrej, Gir, Hariana, Nagauri, Tharparkar, Ongole, Sahiwal, Red Sindhi, Amrit Mahal, Hallikar, Kangayam and Khillari, with photographs, body measurements and production data. It is an important primary source for the study of the history, identification, adaptability and usefulness of the zebu breeds of the Indian subcontinent.
