Introduction
Published in 1912, this historical book gives a detailed account of the cattle, the system of animal husbandry and the breeding traditions of the princely state of Mysore. It covers the identification, physical traits, uses and breeding tracts of the regional breeds, including the Amrit Mahal, Hallikar, Chitaldroog and Mahadeswara Betta.
The book also describes the selection of animals, breeding bulls, castration, pasture, fodder, cattle fairs and the traditional methods of breed improvement. It is an important primary source for the study of Mysore's cattle and its historical system of animal husbandry.
